Padres Claim Igawa
The San Diego Padres have claimed Kei Igawa off waivers from the Yankees, according to major league sources. The Padres now have the rest of the weekend to work out a trade. If no trade is reached, Igawa must remain with the team for the rest of the season. The Padres were the only team rumored to be interested and they even showed some interest before the July 31st deadline. Kei Igawa, 28, struggled with his command this season and while in the majors, was 2-3 with a 6.79 ERA. It is possible that a switch to the NL to a smaller media city could help him ease into the bigs.
