Update on Soriano

The word on Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano is worse than originally thought. He is expected to miss the next six weeks with a fracture in his left hand. This will be his third trip to the DL in his less than 1 1/2 seasons with the team.

I know this is Soriano's third trip to the DL, but there was no way this injury could be prevented. I think the Cubs are deep enough that they will continue to win without Soriano.

Yea but this trip to the DL isn't a trip that you can say Soriano could have avoided (like by stretching or something). This was just a freak accident that really is a bummer because there's nothing he could do about it.

Not so sure about the freak accident thing. Soriano was hit because he was stepping into the pitch to swing, as he does on nearly every pitch. His agressiveness at the dish cost him the chance to get out of the way of a pitch that was clearly inside.
