Although they would like to have someone who can serve as a back up for Mike Lowell, Sean Casey has a bat that would definitely improve the Red Sox bench. In 143 games last season with the Tigers, Casey batted .296 with 4 HR and 54 RBI. Not very impressive for someone of his size, but the Red Sox should be able to sign him to a rather small contract.

Cant run and cannot play both corners, this makes no sense for the Sox. They dont need a veteran backup, they need a reliable versitle corner guy who can fill in for both Youkilis and Lowell.
makes a ton of sense. he's the best hitter available on the market right now. sox should jump at the chance to have a 300 career hitter on their bench
