Griffey Jr. to Boston?

The Reds have been struggling a lot this year, compiling an 18-30 record. Their hitting isn't coming around, pitching is pitching like everyone had hoped and this is turning out to be just another year for them. Ken Griffey Jr., 38, has been the subject of many trades this off season, and will be one of the biggest names traded at the trade deadline. The Red Sox just brought in J.D. Drew, who is batting .237 with 2 HR, and have Coco Crisp, who is batting .240 with 1 HR, but neither have helped the team so far this season. What looks to be shaping up is Coco Crisp, who hasn't been all effective in his tenure with the team, will be shopped around for pitching, while the Red Sox will offer a couple prospects, probably pitchers to the Reds for Griffey Jr. and possibly cash. What I see is the Red Sox offering something like Michael Bowden and Kris Johnson to the Reds for Griffey Jr. and cash. But, more will be determined when we see where both teams are in July, and when the Red Sox gauge the competition of the AL East. I think this would be a great move for the Red Sox. They will bring in a veteran who would help when they reach the playoffs, and not only that, but he still has talent to make them the best team in the American League. The Reds would be smart to dig into another teams farm system. It would give them a strong pitcher or two in the future and the way prices are rising in the free agent market, it would be a cheap addition with a long term reward.

Could it be?

eh wouldnt be surprised. but i doubt the yanks will come back. when you are that far back, with no solid pitching. All Bos needs to do is set the season in autodrive.

Are you kidding, just because coco is not hitting the guy is a reincarnation of Freddy Lynn! The Sox have plenty of hitting to carry them through the season, manny will pick up the pace like he always does. Coco provides a great glove and SPEED, something that the Sox have lacked in past seasons. Now if Cincy thought about taking willy mo back...then knock yourself out.

i think it is actually farely realistic

i think hellcity is farely wrong for making a comment like that, you know nothing about how these trades work!

i mean honestly if somebody can't produce on both sides than why keep him, you can't make it in the bigs by just being able to field, use ur head before you speak, griffey is still pretty quick and can field his position decent enough (not like coco), but his bat will create 10x more productivity in general for the sox...

get off me son

no offense but i dont see the sox giving up a prospect like bowden for griffey, bowden is the sox 2nd top pitching prospect. he dominated a very hitters league in lancaster and has done very well so far in AA with portland. he gets overlooked a bunch cause of clay buchholz. im a sox fan and id be pissed if they gave up bowden for griffey. griffey hasnt played more than 130 games since 2000. the sox dont need griffey at all. drew will come along, i do agree coco could be gone but the sox have ellsbury waiting to take over for coco and ellsbury right now is a young johnny damon. if the reds wanna give us griffey for say kris johnson and another lower prospect then yeah but no way the sox will give them bowden for griffey. sox dont need griffey. their offense is still one of the best right now and thats with drew struggling and manny struggling for most of the season. if the sox trade for anything it will be another bullpen arm

it will only happen if the reds dont want much in return. bowden will not be traded for the aging injury prone outfielder in griffey. unless the sox cant get griffey for almost nothing dont expect it to happen. not when say tori hunter will likely be on the trading block cause the twins will be out of it.

I'm glad some bloggers are living in reality and wouldn't trade Bowden for griffey jr. Jr would be a nice 1-2 year rental, but thats about it. At 38 he's lost most of his cache. A Hansen + Hansack/Pauley/Gabbard/Masterson...take your pick on the 2nd tier minor league pitcher.

i wouldnt even want the sox to give up gabbard to get griffey. i cant picture griffey playing solid defense in fenway's outfield. id honestly would rather have coco for now. he provides the sox with very good defense out there and they dont need him to get great. if coco turns it around with the bat then even better. sox got enough balance with their lineup that they dont need number 1-9 to put up great offensive numbers. remember now the sox are winning all these games when drew has been slumping and manny's bat is just waking up. sox dont need griffey and if anyone is actually stupid enough to believe that the sox would give up bowden for griffey needs to get their head checked. bowden could be getting pretty close to untouchable unless he is in some kind of package deal that would bring a cabrera type player in return.
