The Red Sox will soon be faced with questions of whether or not to keep Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. What most likely will happen is that they will go out and find a trade partner to avoid the problem. So who will be available in a couple years for a trade, and who may the Red Sox look to as a partner? Here are a couple guys I see as possible replacements in the future:
Hanley Ramirez, Marlins: The Red Sox traded the top prospect to the Marlins and acquired two key components in their 2007 World Series victory. I think it is a fair trade off, especially when you look down the road at possibly re-acquiring him. If the Marlins continue to sell, Ramirez should be available to trade and could probably net a pitcher like Jon Lester, along with a couple other prospects.
Daric Barton, Athletics: Barton is someone to look out for next season after making it to the MLB and doing very well. He has power, and if he lives up to that should be out of the Athletics price range soon. The A's have always been ones to sell, and the Red Sox might come calling.
Joey Votto, Reds: The Reds may be willing to deal one of their top prospects at the right price, especially if he does well. They have Jay Bruce who is expected to be an All Star, so he might take away from Votto down the road.
Matt Holliday, Rockies: If the Rockies cannot sign Holliday to a long term deal, they might trade him for a boatload of talent. The Red Sox have the money, and could use the power the left fielder brings to replace Manny.
Matt Kemp, Dodgers: The Dodgers tried to unload him after a solid year, but might be more inclined to do it in a couple years after some of their veteran pitchers move away from their prime. They could land a pair of pitching prospects, maybe even someone like Jon Lester, assuming he lives up to potential.

Eli, What are you talking about? The Dodgers have tried to unload Kemp. Kemp is considered a very important part of the Dodgers' future.
great article. who's to say it'll only be the BoSox, when other large payroll teams would unload for any of these stars?
To say that the Dodgers tried to "unload" Matt Kemp is absurd.
An intelligent writer would use such phrases with a Juan Pierre not a possible young franchise player in Matt Kemp.
You might trade a Kemp in a deal for Eric Bedard or Miguel Cabrera, but you do not unload a young player with such promise.
As far as I know the red sox are trying to groom Brandon Moss the replace manny once he is gone. I have confident the will pick up Manny's option as at this point it seems like he wants to retire with the sox. After those two years the redsox will probably have already traded for a good prospect or would look for a good yound guy to trade for if they decide not to go with moss.
Hanley should be a free agent in 2012
Manny has club options for 2009 & 2010.
Ortiz has a club option for 2011.

now why are the red sox trading papi and ramirez?...and why are the marlins trading hanley ramirez?...im going to assume youre a sox fan. as a yankee fan i hope they trade them that would be great. ramirez may be gone at the end of the year...but he is affordable for them and still quite productive. people aren't trading their high level prospects for high priced veterans any longer

You have got to be kidding. The Rockies WILL NOT TRADE Matt Holliday, no matter. The Rox have been preparing for his free agency, and that of other players for a couple of years now. If the Rockies had not reached the WS this past year, then yes, Holliday may have been traded eventually. However, the Rockies did go to the WS, and are starting to get national attention, and a stadium full of fans. The cash flow is starting to come. Matt Holliday is not going anywhere. The BoSox and Yanks cannot just buy everyone.
