Lone Member: Hoffman Saves 500th

After a great outing from Greg Maddux, and solid relief appearances from Heath Bell and Scott Linebrink, "Hells Bells" began to play and Trevor Hoffman came on the field to notch any other save. Now that he is the all time leader in saves, there is no one else to beat. But it just so happens that last night he had 499 saves and would become the only pitcher in the history of baseball to have 500 anythings in one stat column. After a Nomar Garciaparra double to center field, Hoffman settled down and forced ground outs from Luis Gonzalez and Jeff Kent, and then he was able to strike out Russel Martin looking. Geoff Blum started at shortstop last night and had four RBIs, and Maddux got his 338th win. The Padres are on a four game winning streak and are tied for first with the Diamondbacks. They take on the Dodgers tonight in the season finale sending Jake Peavy to the mound against Hong-Chih Kuo.
