Yankees To Sign Crystal?

According to FOXSports.com, the Yankees are closing in on a minor league deal with a one day invitation to Spring Training with utility man Billy Crystal. "I've been waiting 50 years for this call," Crystal said in a statement released by the team. "I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of the Yankees and commissioner Selig. I know this'll be tougher than the Broadway Softball League, but I'm looking forward to helping the younger players, which by the way is all of them. Oops, I have to go, Scott Boras is on the phone." Crystal, who hit .348 at Long Beach High School, will bring more veteran leadership to a young clubhouse. Although he has not racked up the innings on the field, he directed the movie 61, the story about Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, so his knowledge of Yankee history and tradition cannot go overlooked. This is a low risk contract with high reward, and I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out for them.

Yankees making a joke of Spring Training. Guys have busted there ass 10 years in the minors to get a chance to play in spring training to show the big league teams something and a comedian gets to make a mockery of the chance. Unreal, over the hill has been schmuck with nothing better to do. Next will see Toby McGuire in the Kentucky Derby cause he acted in Sea Biscuit lmao.

it doesn't mean much? say that to the 29 year old career minor leaguer who has fought hard and endured countless bus trips in hole in the wall venues if it's no big deal to him.

guys this is nothing more than a favor to Crystal and he was signed to a contract so he could legally play in a exhibition game.
He's not taking a roster spot and going to be part of any of the teams beyond this one game.
The guys 60 years old , do you honestly think he's going to be playing more than this one game?

i partly agree...but only cos it's billy crystal..he's not a yankee fan...he wore a mets hat in city slickers, a part owner of the d-backs and wore a dbacks hat at yankee stadium during the world series.
