Is Uggla Next To Go?

The Marlins refuse to raise their payroll, and with several players becoming arbitration eligible, another minor fire sale could be coming. Dan Uggla looks like the person most likely to be traded, mostly because the Marlins have two prospects that will be ready in 2009 or 2010. Prospect Chris Coghlan and Robert Andino both have a lot of upside and could see time in the MLB in September if the Marlins fall in the standings. Uggla can hit for power, but if he cannot bring his average up, he probably won't bring back much meaning the Marlins might be able to retain him.

As for possible options, the Rockies seem like a perfect fit. Although they have Jayson Nix, he certainly didn't show the Rockies much. The Rockies could ship blocked prospect Ian Stewart along with two or three more and bring in someone who could possibly hit thirty-five to forty homeruns. He would be perfect for their offense. The Dodgers seem like a good fit, but they seem more set on giving their prospects a shot.

Not sure I would do Stewart for Uggla straight up at this point let alone 2-3 more. 35-40 hrs is a bit lofty don't you think?

It's time to get rid of this franchise.
No fans,no commitment from ownership.
I hope no will trade with these clowns and all the players leave via free agency.

Can he play SS? The Orioles are SS hunting... not sure how the Marlin's and O's matchup.

I gotta agree and say that Ian Stewart plus 2-3 prospects is way too much for Uggla. Uggla has good power for a middle infielder but lacks the plate discipline or ability to hit for contact that you need to be an elite hitter. He also plays nothing special defense at second, so outside of those homers and doubles, he really doesn't bring much to the table. He's an above average second baseman, which would likely require one top prospect and not much more. If the Rockies were willing to give up Stewart, then the Marlins shouldn't be expecting much back, if anything.

they should move them to Las Vegas

Time to move the fish. When an organization can't even support a solid player like Uggla through at least a couple of arbitration years, it's time to think about a new home. I don't know where that will be, but just about anywhere would be better than Miami. It's pretty obvious that Major League baseball in South Florida has failed miserably. Geez, even Puerto Rico would be better!

The Giants should be working there ass' off to get Dan Ugla. He would be a great pickup for a team that is trying to rebuild.
