Nationals Select Acta; A's Select Geren

Manny Acta, Mets third base coach is the leading canidate to be the next manager of the Washington Nationals. He pulled is name out of the job in Oakland, so a deal between the Nationals and Acta appears imminent and could happen as soon as next week. Bob Geren, the A's bench coach is the leading canidate now that Acta has pulled out and he will probaly land the job during, or immediately following the GM meetings next week. Are these good moves for each club? For the Nationals, yes, they will get someone fresh to managing and he has been surrounded by Willie Randolph, who's old school style will be brought up to Washington. For Oakland, they will probaly stay the same, making a run at the playoffs. However, if teams up along the West Coast continue to improve, while Billy Beane does his thing at finding young talent, expect them to fall into last place until the players can develop.

News from around the league:
-Cardinals sign Edmonds
-Astros sign Biggio
-Red Sox decline Foulke's option
-Dodgers decline Gagne's option
