Dodgers: The Dodgers and Juan Pierre have agreed to a five year, 45 million dollar deal. They have also resigned Nomar Garciaparra to a two year, 18.5 million dollar deal. They are also looking to add Jason Schmidt, if he is interested.
Padres: Today the Padres added two to protect them from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. They added second basemen Luis Cruz and reliever Leo Rosales. Two baseball sources have reported that the Padres have interest in bringing Barry Bonds to play next season. However, it appears the Giants and A's may be entering an intense bidding war.
Diamondbacks: The Diamondbacks left Randy Choate off their 40-man roster which was announced today. He will be not protected in the Rule 5 draft but I do not think it will come back to haunt the D-Backs if they lose him. Minor League Infielder Andy Green is close to an agreement with Nippon Ham Fighters to play in Japan next year.
Rockies: When the Rockies announced that they will look to trade Jason Jennings, several teams called to express their interest. The Yankees, Cubs, Marlins, Padres, Phillies, Mets, and Twins have all called to find out what it would take to swing a trade. Currently the Rockies are looking for pitching, and pitching only.
Giants: The Giants may have to work harder than they thought to keep Barry Bonds this year because the A's have a growing interest. However, I see the A's pulling away because it seems that Bonds will want a lot more money than they have to offer. They also have an offer on the table for Gary Mathews Jr., which if he were to accept, would bat lead-off and play center field. He would have to cover a lot of room, especially if they keep Bonds.
