This year, the Mets plan to sign free agent Byung-Hyun Kim. Kim, who has struggled over the past couple years, is being targeted by the Mets because of his work ethic. Not only that, but pitching coach Rick Peterson has had success working with side-arm relievers like Chad Bradford and Pedro Feliciano. I assume the Mets would give him a chance to start, but I think he is better suited for the bullpen. Kim was 10-8 this season with a 6.08 ERA and 107 K.

Every team in the NL East is pulling for the Mets to sign Kim.

i.e. Mets are too cheap to use their enormous revenues from drawing 3.7 million fans and having their own TV network to get actual proven players, so they're looking for a bargain, a player that can be turned around and make coaches and GM look smart and of course, did I mention to save money?
