Sources: Yankees Interested In Hawkins
The Yankees plan to make another run at LaTroy Hawkins. After the 2003 season, the Yankees and Cubs were both trying very hard to land Hawkins. He ultimately signed with the Cubs and after one good year, he was traded to the Giants. However, now that he was a key player in the bullpen for the Rockies this season, his value has risen back up. Hawkins is 35, and would probably only get a two year deal, tops. The Yankees are also looking into Ron Mahay, but no word yet on if negotiations are proceeding. Other than the Yankees, the Rockies, Tigers, and Brewers are pursuing him.
