According to the Biz of Baseball, Thomas Ricketts has won the bidding for the Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field, and 25 % of Comcast Sports Chicago. The deal is expected to be announced two days following the World Series, once 3/4 owners approve the sale. The Biz of Baseball also has a piece on the debt structure of the Cubs' offer that will lead the next owner to have to making major cuts to the player payroll. With the Cubs trading away several prospects to win this year, this could be the beginning of the end for the Cubs if they are unable to spend money to land big time free agents.
The consensus among Cubs fans for the next owner was Mark Cuban, but Ricketts is from Chicago and plans to be a big part of the Cubs future.
