According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, Kevin Towers plans to talk with Padres closer Trevor Hoffman about an extension for 2009. In 43 games this season, Hoffman is 3-6 with a 4.24 ERA and 27 SV. While I think Hoffman has been great for the Padres, he will not be very effective next season as a closer. However, the Padres do have money to spend (assuming they decline Brian Giles' option), and do owe it to Hoffman to let him finish his career with the Padres.
