The Royals have been unsuccessful in their pursuit for help in the past two offseasons, and they are ready to come back and make some moves in 2008. While going after CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira would be nice, Royals GM Dayton Moore has the money to spend on a couple second tier free agents. That could mean going after shortstop Rafael Furcal, along with pitcher Jon Garland or Braden Looper. Maybe Moore will focus in on hitting and attempt to land Furcal and Raul Ibanez, while choosing to upgrade the bottom end of the rotation with a starter like Mark Hendrickson.
The Royals certainly have some pieces to make a good team, but it needs to be helped by a couple solid veterans, bullpen, and bench depth. If they could add a pitch hit specialist like Mark Sweeney or Daryle Ward, that would put them in good shape on the bench. As for the bullpen, they could take a gamble on struggling reliever Bob Howry, who has a career 3.64 ERA. Dayton Moore is very aware of the situation and will likely spend his money carefully and wisely.
