Brewers Now Desperate For Pitching

A source tells me that now the Brewers have lost both Francisco Cordero and Scott Linebrink, they are desperate to replace them. The have Derrick Turnbow, but he proved that he could not close this past season so they probably will not try again. I could see them go after former closer Keith Foulke. He said he was planning a comeback and for the Brewers to dish him a one year, incentive laden contract might turn out to be a plus. As for other relievers on the market, David Riske, Ron Mahay, Kerry Wood, and LaTroy Hawkins are all solid additions to the the bullpen. Although they may be expensive, they must find ways to upgrade. They are loaded with starting pitching and that could lead to a trade for a bullpen arm. He did that with Dan Kolb and lost pitching prospect Jose Capellan, who is now fighting for a job with the Tigers. I see the Brewers looking to the Blue Jays for help. They had a solid bullpen and may be willing to give up pitchers like Jeremy Accardo or Scott Downs for a solid pitcher and minor leaguer. Accardo was 4-4 with a 2.14 ERA, 30 SV, and 57 K while Downs was 4-2 with a 2.17 ERA and 57 K. One would be a huge upgrade in the pen and not a big loss for the Blue Jays as they would like to add another starting pitcher.

How about the Mets offer a deal of Mike Pelfrey and Aaron Heilmann for Ben Sheets?

by the way, cross off all of the aformentioned players as a potential brewers

latroy hawkins will either be a rockie or retire

ron mahay will sign with the yankees

kerry wood will return to the cubs

and david riske will price himself out of being a brewer

They Jays are not looking for a new starting pitcher, they already have an abundance of them. With Chacin, Janssen, Litsch, and a few others fighting for the fifth spot.

if the a's decide to sell off chunks off the team like i think they will, not too hard to imagine the a's trading justin duchscherer or kiko calero for prospects. possibly even huston street if billy beane is crazy enough.

you're all forgetting dotel...he's available for the crew at probably a reasonable price. he's a reliever that has fallen from grace that their pitching coach could turn into a viable closer (see dan kolb's, derrick turnbow's, and francisco cordero's all-star years)

the blue jays are not trading accardo until they know that BJ ryan is 100% healthy and even then its unlikely they trade accardo. As for downs, i doubt they will trade him because they are thin in terms of lefty relievers now that Joe Kennedy has died (they planned on re-signing him) and downs was so vital to their bullpen and they would need a solid lefty replacement whose name is not Brian "lose me a game" Tallet.

PS: Why did you decide not to report the death of Joe Kennedy. Total disrepect considering the other trash you post on this blog

I did have something on Joe Kennedy. I had something in the top corner of my page that said "R.I.P. Joe Kennedy" I took it down this morning. I figure that is showing enough respect. As for other "trashy posts," I'm sorry you feel that way and I will work to make them "less trashy."
