According to the New York Post, Manny Ramirez is interested in joining the Yankees after this season so he can play the Red Sox. "He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox," a close friend of Ramirez's told The Post. Ramirez, 36, will definitely test the market following the World Series in hopes of landing one final gig. His agent, Scott Boras, will likely look for a long term deal between 4-6 years.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman denied to comment on the situation, but he might not be around this coming offseason to make the decision, so do not read into that too much.
Taking a closer look at Ned Colletti's signing history, I think ownership will force him to pass on Manny. They need a lot of money to resign Furcal and already have a lot of money out on their pitchers. Giving Ramirez a big contract would be risky and could turn out to be a bust. Ramirez is as good as gone.
