ESPN's Jayson Stark made an interesting observation after the deadline on Thursday. In the flurry of big-name deals, many smaller deals did not get made because of the attention being paid to the blockbusters. Many teams like Phillies and Mets, thought to be in on the Manny sweepstakes, wound up with nothing because so much energy was spent on trying to make a big acquisition.
If you look at the deals, almost all included a potential or certain future Hall of Famer- Manny Ramirez,Ken Griffey Jr. Pudge Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Rich Harden, and Mark Teixera. Maybe the smaller deals will get done at the non-waiver deadline.
