Yesterday, the Cubs resigned Henry Blanco to continue to backup Michael Barrett. He was signed to a two year deal worth 5.25 million. The Yankees reported they are nearing a deal with Mike Mussina around two years 22.5 million. The Mets traded Heath Bell and Royce Ring to the Padres for Ben Johnson and John Adkins. This was a great trade for the Mets who unloaded a little money, but more importantly, acquired a potential outfielder with power. This may hint that they are looking to trade Lastings Milledge. The Padres also announced they have interest in signing Nomar Garciaparra and Ray Durham. The Padres, who are arguably in the toughest NL division are trying to build a team so they can pull away from the other teams. Over the years, the NL West has had teams that were very equal, and the division would not be decided until the last week. The Phillies and Wes Helms agreed to a two year 5.5 million dollar deal.

It has been confirmed by GM Purpura; however, Soriano says he wants to stay near the East Coast. Finally, the A's have promoted Bob Geren, their bench coach, to now manage the A's.
