White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye has been placed on the trade block, according to the NY Daily News. Dye had a great year hitting .292 with 34 homeruns and 96 RBI in 154 games this season. Dye will make 11.5 million dollars in 2009, with a mutual option for 12 million dollars in 2010. Dye should draw a lot of interest considering he is still productive and relatively cheap. Expect the Phillies, Mets, and Cardinals to pursue Dye, which would allow them to save their money from spending it on an outfielder to spending it on a pitcher.
At this point, it is hard to see any deal getting done. Teams are working hard to sign their players and will be very aggressive over the next couple of weeks to sign up some of the big time names. Expect a deal, if any, to be worked out during the Winter Meetings, when GM's have a better idea of what they are working with.
