Peavy Prefers Cubs?

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Padres pitcher Jake Peavy "has created the impression" to friends that he would prefer a trade to the Chicago Cubs. This shouldn't come as a surprise considering the Cubs are coming off a 97-win season and bringing in someone like Peavy would make them even better. However, this could effect how the Padres go about their business because if Peavy feels strongly about this, he could reject a trade to the Braves or Dodgers.

Padres GM Kevin Towers and the Cubs are still working out some details, but it is believed they are trying to add a third team to complete the trade. The Cubs might be forced to include Jeff Samardzija and Josh Vitters, along with other prospects to get a deal done, and it is probably worth it considering Peavy is under contract through 2012.

UPDATE: MLB.com is reporting that the Cubs came into the offseason knowing they could bring in one pitcher, but bringing in both Ryan Dempster and Jake Peavy would cause serious financial problems for the next owner. We'll see what happens.

Not knowing the real financial status of the Cubs, I still think they should make the deal for Peavy. I hate to give them too much of the young talent but what are the Cubs waiting for. Another 100 years?
Do what the best teams do they try to win NOW And worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
