According to the New York Daily News, the Mets are balking at free agent closer Brian Fuentes' asking price. Fuentes, who went 1-5 with a 2.73 ERA and 30 SV, is reportedly asking for about 10-12 million dollars. One source informed me that the Brewers appear more willing to dish out that kind of money to an established closer despite spending 10 million dollars on Eric Gagne last season (Gagne went 4-3 with a 5.44 ERA in 50 games).
The Rangers and Cardinals might make a play for Fuentes, but one source informed me that teams might stay away from him until his price falls. Trevor Hoffman, Kerry Wood, and Brandon Lyon are all available and would be effective, so teams might pursue see these guys until Fuentes' price comes down.
