According to the New York Daily News, the Mets are interested in free agent pitcher Jon Garland, believing that Derek Lowe is out of their price range. Garland was 14-8 with a 4.90 ERA in 32 starts this past season, but has averaged 15 wins over the past four seasons. Garland has always been a solid pitcher in the AL, and a switch to the NL would probably improve his numbers. One concern teams should have is that Garland's walks have jumped by twenty and his strikeouts have dropped by nearly twenty.
Garland is reportedly seeking a four year deal worth 12-14 million dollars annually. The Cardinals and Braves have reported varying degrees of interest, but he isn't expected to sign until the big names come off the market.
