According to MLB.com, the Yankees have had several discussions with the Padres concerning Jake Peavy. With the Yankees extending offers to every top free agent, their top prospects are expendable. If they include Phil Hughes, Dellin Betances, Brett Gardner, and maybe Juan Miranda, they probably could land him. Brian Cashman and Kevin Towers are close friends and could work out a deal. The one road block in this deal is that Peavy prefers to be on the West Coast, and would probably need a reason to go to New York beside heading to a good team.
The Cubs remain interested in Jake Peavy, but are still working on the players to include in the deal. The Padres are looking for a solid young pitcher in the trade and the Cubs are looking to include a third team to make the deal happen.
