Free agent outfielder Dave Roberts, the hero of the 2004 ALCS, is getting ready to announce his retirement this week. "I'm OK with it now," said Roberts. "I'm looking forward to the next phase of my life - either stay in the game and coach or go into broadcasting. I'll never forget Boston and what happened there. It'll always be the fondest memory for me." Roberts needs to have another knee surgery, so he probably won't be on the field again until next season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Roberts get picked up as a base running coach. Roberts stole a career 243 bases in 10 major league seasons.
