The Washington Nationals have sent OF Lastings Milledge down to the minors. The Nationals are off to an 0-7 start and think that sending Milledge down will give him more time to develop in the lead off role, not to mention clear up the clog in the Nationals outfield. "He is still a work-in-progress as a leadoff man," assistant general manager Mike Rizzo said during a conference call. Milledge was expected to play a big role in the Nationals chances this year, but a slow start has cost him his job. The Nationals believe that this is a smart move for the long term, and Rizzo said that Milledge took the demotion like a professional.
