The Red Sox have placed starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the disabled list, Foxsports.com is reporting. Matsuzaka didn't make it past the second inning, throwing 43 pitches and giving up five earned runs. "Our biggest concern is to keep him healthy and productive," Francona said. "At the moment, it doesn't seem like we're there with him. It wasn't coming out very crisp. It looks like he needs to be built back up. We want him to be able to be Dice-K." This certainly hurts the Red Sox early on, but they do have a lot of options in their minor league system. Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden are two promising young pitchers with limited major league experience.
