- Minor league veteran Scott McClain agreed to a one year deal with the Hiroshima Carp. McClain, 37, is a career .262 hitter with 404 career minor league homeruns in over 2200 games. He never could figure it out in the major leagues, but has appeared in the major leagues three times with three different teams (Devil Rays, Cubs, and Giants).
- The Tigers have released pitcher Scott Williamson to make room for Eddie Bonine on the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens roster. Williamson hasn't appeared in the majors since 2007, and has attempted a comeback with the Braves, Mariners, and Tigers.
- By designating Casey Fossum for assignment, the Mets made room for Ken Takahashi in their bullpen. The Mets are scrambling for pitching, and if the 40-year old can't contribute, the Mets may be forced to look elsewhere.
- The Padres jumped at the opportunity to sign a veteran right hander with starting pitching experience. Chad Gaudin is taking the mound tonight for the Padres and they are all hoping that he can come in and give them six strong innings of baseball. The Padres are 10-9 this season, 2.5 games behind the first place Dodgers.
