Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit will have right wrist surgery and will be out for 8-10 weeks. The injury came while batting Sunday versus the Braves. He stayed in the game, but felt some discomfort after the game and had an MRI and CT scan the next day. The results revealed a fracture and the surgery is set for Thursday. Doumit, who is hitting .244 with 2 HR in 12 games this season, signed a three year deal worth 11.5 million dollars this offseason.
The Pirates have two in-house options to replace him, but they combine for 14-major league at-bats. Jason Jaramillo and Robinson Diaz are expected to man the position for now, but the Pirates could go out and find a replacement. They could approach Paul Lo Duca about the position for the time being.
