The Mets have cut ties with pitcher Freddy Garcia, who had a 8.18 ERA in two starts for the Mets Triple-A affiliate. Garcia, 33, had poor command of his pitches and was barely topping 85 mph. I don't see teams calling to give Garcia another shot. He is a solid pitcher, who is 118-77 with a 4.07 career ERA. His best year came in 2001 when he went 18-5 with a 3.05 ERA with the Seattle Mariners.
Garcia is going to continue pitching, but did hint to retirement being an option: I'm working really hard to try to get right but my shoulder doesn't respond. I'm going to try my best. If not, I guess I'll go home. I don't know. That's it, man."
