According to a source, the Athletics will talk with Garrett Anderson about possibly taking their DH spot for 2009. He hit .293 with 15 HR in 145 games this season and those could improve if he is exclusively in the DH spot. The Angels have a very crowded infield as it is, so they will likely let him walk. As for other teams that could pursue Anderson, the Rays are another possibility. They have an opening at the DH and right field spot and could offer Anderson a relatively cheap contract and hopes he can come through. His veteran know-how and playoff experience would make him an instant leader in the clubhouse.
Anderson, 36, will probably stay in the American League but don't be surprised to see the Mets or even Marlins swoop in and give him a one or two year deal.
