Cubs Still After Roberts?

The Cubs will enter the Brian Roberts sweepstakes again this off season, hoping they can add a speedy lead off hitter. This would move Mark DeRosa to right field and Kosuke Fukudome to either center field or to the minors. Either way, adding Roberts and getting Alfonso Soriano lower in the lineup will make this team even better. However, the minor leaguers the Orioles talked about last offseason have either been traded or struggled, while Roberts improved his trade value by putting together another good season. Personally, the Cubs have a solid second baseman in Mike Fontenot, and would probably put together a great season if given the opportunity.

Although Roberts is a year from free agency, the Orioles will probably still ask for four players. Expect names like Ronny Cedeno, Randy Wells, Sean Marshall, and minor leaguers Donald Veal, Dylan Johnson, and Tony Thomas.

Roberts' value didn't get improved by his performance this year. It's declined because he's under contract for one year instead of two. His performance will make him expensive, but he should cost less than last season.

I'd say something like Jose Ceda, Ronny Cedeno and Sean Marshall for Roberts.
