Quick Hits

Quick Hits:
  • There is some speculation among rival executives that the Cubs may shop Derek Lee and pursue lefty power hitter Mark Teixeira. While that seems unlikely because Lee has a full no-trade clause, it is very possible they pursue lefty right fielder Bobby Abreu. More likely options include Brian Roberts and Raul Ibanez.
  • Several sports writers and executives believe that the Braves and Padres are closing in on a Jake Peavy trade. The Padres are expected to land Kelly Johnson to help fill the void at second base. Other players include Jordan Schafer and Tommy Hanson.
  • Instead of putting money into a free agent market, the Red Sox are expected to monitor the Matt Holliday situation. The Red Sox appear willing to trade Clay Buchholz, so a big trade is expected. They are also expected to pursue Brad Penny, who will likely be let go by the Dodgers.
  • The Brewers' interviews are expected to take place next week, with Willie Randolph, Bob Brenly, and Ken Macha all getting interviews.
