Shortstop Grumblings

There is a lot of word going around on shortstops lately. Jon Heyman has the news:

Rafael Furcal, Dodgers: The Dodgers would like to bring back Rafael Furcal on an incentive based, one year deal, loaded with incentives and performance based options. Furcal was injured for four months with a herniated disk, but put on quiet a show in the postseason and played a key role in the Dodgers early season success.

Orlando Cabrera, White Sox: The White Sox are not planning on bringing Orlando Cabrera back, but instead move Alexei Ramirez to shortstop and bring in a second baseman. So, where will Cabrera go? The Pirates, Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Royals, among others, a teams that will likely consider him.

Edgar Renteria, Tigers: Edgar Renteria's club option was denied by the Tigers, making him a free agent. Renteria hit .270 with 10 HR this season, and is 33 years, suggesting that he could be leaving his prime after a down year. However, the Tigers struggled mightily this year so I wouldn't necessarily write his career off. He is a .290 career hitter with a couple World Series rings to prove it. Renteria has a consistent success in Toronto and in San Francisco (also against the NL West), making those two places possible landing spots.
