Cubs pitcher Angel Guzman is out of options, opening up speculation that he could be on the move before Opening Day. The Padres have been looking to add cheap pitching, and may be willing to part with a low level prospect or cash for him. Guzman was once considered a highly touted prospect for the Cubs, but hasn't been able to put a full season together since dealing with shoulder problems in 2005. Guzman also had elbow surgery in 2007, cutting his seasons short.
However, Guzman has shown flashes of a good pitcher and is just 27 years old. He played well in Winter Ball, but is having a tough Spring. Other teams that could make a play for Guzman include the Astros, Athletics, Marlins, and Blue Jays, among others.

Trade Guzman for Peavy straight up.
LOL
ok
Oh, a trade for Guzman would really surprise me. The problem is, he's out of options, and a trade would mean that the receiving team would have to keep him on the 25 man roster from here on out. He's given absolutely no indication that he could handle that.
Its far more likely that teams will wait for the Cubs to attempt to outright him, and claim him off waivers. That option gives his new team much more flexibility, but nets the cubs absolutely nothing (unfortunately).
