The Braves are closing in on a deal for free agent pitcher Tom Glavine. Glavine has pitched for the Braves since 1987, and has 305 career wins. Losing him to another team on top of John Smoltz's departure would not have looked very good for the Braves. Glavine went 2-4 with a 5.54 ERA in 13 games for the Braves last season, and should be ready to go for Opening Day. While Glavine has lost some command, being the fifth starter gives the Braves an advantage because Glavine is far more experienced than any other fifth starter.
Did you know?: In 1987, Glavine pitched in 9 games for the Braves going 2-4 with a 5.54 ERA. This season, in 13 games, he went 2-4 with a 5.54 ERA. The game total adds up to 22, which happens to be how many seasons Glavine has been with the Braves.
