The Washington Post is reporting that several members of the Nationals ownership group would like to cut ties with GM Jim Bowden after the latest developments in the federal investigation surrounding him and other Nationals executives. Bowden has denied any wrong doing, but the skimming of the signing bonuses and scouting practices have been documented. The investigation encompasses the entire Nationals front office, putting principal owner Ted Lerner in an interesting spot.
Mike Rizzo, who is an Assistant GM, could easily fill in as an interim GM for the start of the season, but it is still unclear who was involved in the wrong doing. The Nationals have a good group of young players, so if they get off to a good start Bowden might stay with the team.
