According to Newsday, the Mets are having internal discussions about free agent pitcher Ben Sheets. The Mets would prefer to sign Oliver Perez, but if that falls through, Ben Sheets is their plan B. Sheets' asking price must be too high because several teams have back off from talks with him, including high-market teams like the Yankees, Cubs, and Dodgers. There are questions about his arm, but Sheets has been very dominant and if you could get him to sign a deal that protects the team while giving him reachable incentives, it is probably worth it.
The Phillies, Cardinals, and Rangers are also interested.
