Quick Hits: Mets, Dunn, Wigginton

Quick Hits:
  • The Mets are reportedly considering three pitchers: Oliver Perez, Randy Wolf, and Ben Sheets. Perez saw a dip in numbers, but nothing that would suggest he is injured. He went 10-7 with a 4.22 ERA in 34 games, a year after going 15-10. Wolf went 12-12 with the Astros and Padres, but he pitched in 33 games, the most since 2003. Evaluators wonder if his arm is strong enough for another full season. The Mets also like Sheets, but are wary of his shoulder problems. Sheets' price has fallen considerably, and a team with strong pitching and leftover cash could make a play for him. The White Sox are a possibly, but a stretch at this point.
  • The Adam Dunn race is practically at a standstill. The Nationals are taking it slow, and the Dodgers are working out a deal with Manny Ramirez. The Braves could look to sign him, but might prefer defense at this point. The Red Sox reportedly have some interest, but they would have to move Mike Lowell before making a play for him. It seems like a long shot, but it is worth noting.
  • The Orioles are in talks with Ty Wigginton to take over at first base, according to the Baltimore Sun. Wigginton is also being pursued by the Twins, but might have more interest in returning to the AL East.
