According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Athletics may begin discussing a contract with Jason Giambi sometime next week. Giambi, 38, is reportedly seeking a three year deal, despite a poor finish to this past season hitting .230 in the final three months. Hitting 32 homeruns should help his case for a multiyear deal, but it is hard to see any team going beyond two years without a club option for Giambi.
Giambi is also being pursued by the Rays, but he may be more interested in Oakland because he played there for seven seasons and may prefer an outdoor stadium.
