• The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the Dodgers and Padres are targeting catcher Brad Ausmus. The Padres have a lot of depth at catcher, but the Dodgers may add Ausmus as a veteran backup and legitimate clubhouse presence. 
• The Twins are continuing their hunt for a third baseman, but may target third baseman Chone Figgins of the Angels. Figgins could be their leadoff hitter, and is very versatile. He could be moved around the field if young players like Brian Buscher come through or Denard Span needs more time in the minors. 
• Free agent pitcher Kenny Rogers, 44, may be an option for the Braves or Marlins. 
• Braves plan to pass on Ben Sheets and Derek Lowe, Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting. 
• Kendry Morales will be the Angels first baseman in 2009, the LA Times says.
