The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Dodgers have agreed to a one year, incentive laden deal with pitcher Claudio Vargas. Vargas, who went 3-2 with a 4.62 ERA last season, gives the Dodgers depth in their depleted rotation. The Dodgers are trying to add another veteran starter, but could pursue other guys like Vargas, perhaps Mark Mulder. The Dodgers might also go after Andy Pettitte, or maybe even Ben Sheets, to anchor their young rotation.
Vargas is currently 3-1 with a 4.02 ERA in six starts in the D.R. Winter Leagues.
