After trading Ramon Hernandez, the Orioles plan to meet with the representatives of free agent Michael Barrett, who is a career .264 hitter with 97 career homeruns. Barrett has battled injuries over the past two seasons, but hit .290 with 48 homeruns from 2004-2006 with the Cubs.
Although Barrett has the potential to put up solid numbers, his defense has become a problem and could be a problem when working with some of the Orioles young pitchers. It might be a better move to target Gregg Zaun, even though they might get better numbers out of Barrett.
