Rockies to Acquire Marquis

The Rockies and Cubs are working on a trade that would send Jason Marquis and cash to the Rockies for pitcher Luis Vizcaino. The Cubs are expected to include 5 million dollars in the deal, so the three million dollars now off the books can go towards landing an outfielder, perhaps Milton Bradley. Marquis, a sinker ball pitcher, is coming into a contract year and could find success in Colorado. As for Vizcaino, he is familiar with the NL Central and has a career 4.34 ERA, but owns a 6.61 ERA in 16 appearances at Wrigley Field.

Trading Marquis opens up the fifth spot to Sean Marshall, or a free agent, or maybe even Jake Peavy. We'll see what happens...
