Indians Sign Wood

The Indians filled a big hole in their bullpen by signing closer Kerry Wood to a two year deal. Details of the contract are unknown, but it is believed to be around 7-9 million dollars annually. I spoke with GM Mark Shapiro early today and he said that talks were progressing very well and a deal should be finalized sometime before the holiday break.

As for a corner infielder, there is not much talk. "There are not too many options," Shapiro said. The Indians have spoken with the Rockies about Garrett Atkins and the Mariners about Adrian Beltre, but their asking prices appear to be too high. He and Tony Reagins were seen talking earlier, suggesting that Chone Figgins could be on the move, but that is speculation at this point. Rich Aurilia and Joe Crede are possible options.
